In celebration of 25 years of bringing some of Italy’s very best wines to the US, renowned Napa based importer Dalla Terra invited industry folks to come taste, eat and say cheers with the amazing Italian wine producers they represent. I was excited to take part in the celebration with these extraordinary wines!

Vietti – 2011 Barolo Castiglione

Region: Piedmont

Like watching a couple dance in a ballet, this wine entrances you with its serene elegance that is embraced by a beautiful masculinity. Scents of blackberry, rose, fennel and tar pirouette out of the glass and unveil flavors of black plum and mint leaf.   With its firm tannins and vibrant acidity, this prodigy certainly has a bright future ahead of it.   –JA

Casanova di Neri – 2009 “Tenuta Nuova” Brunello di Montalcino

Region: Tuscany
Price: $70

It’s all in the name – this true Casanova adorns you with a bouquet of ripe plum, violet, eucalyptus, leather and a spicy tone of cayenne pepper. So call it young love, but with its already well-integrating tannins holding together hints of nutmeg, dusty wood and mocha, this one is sure to grow into a rather handsome maturity. –JA

Aia Vecchia – 2011 ‘Sor Ugo’ Bolgheri Superiore

Region: Tuscany
Price: $36

Like the charming Tuscan countryside, this displays aromas of juicy red cherry, black currant, iris and licorice. On the palate it unveils its rustic side with notes of barnyard, gamey meat and fennel as its zesty acidity leads into a long spice finish. –JA

Badia a Coltibuono – 1965 Chianti Classico Riserva

Region: Tuscany
Price: $310

Wow, just wow. Proving how true beauty only gets better with time and age, notes of red chery, tarragon, iodine and a slight umami character reveal themselves on the nose. On the palate the story gets even better with further notes of sage, dried florals and toasted wood.   Still full of nice acidity and a soft yet sturdy foundation of tannins and body that is drinking superbly right now. –JA

Russiz Superiore – 2007 Horus Bianco

Its gorgeous amber color isn’t just for looks – a scrumptious medley of apricot preserves, marmalade, honeycomb and cardamom welcome you to the glass. A rich voluptuous body releases its crisp acidity followed by flavors or acacia, caramel and a nice long cinnamon finish. –JA
